Outstanding Opportunity for a BC/BE Pediatric Hand and Brachial Plexus/Peripheral Nerve Surgeon

at Prestigious Children’s Hospital in Miami, FL

Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a 325-bed freestanding children's hospital and ACS-verified Level 1 pediatric trauma center, and Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children's Health System, along with the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, are recruiting a Pediatric Hand Surgeon to assume leadership of the Pediatric Hand and Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program. The ideal candidate is a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon who subspecializes in hand surgery and is CAQ certified/eligible.

Key Responsibilities

· Surgical treatment for the full spectrum of pediatric congenital and acquired conditions and traumatic injuries

· Microsurgery skills, including replantation and free tissue transfer

· Interest in complex wound reconstruction

· Hand on-call consultations

· Participation in multi-disciplinary programs

· Faculty appointment to Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine

About the Division of Plastic Surgery

This opportunity includes a well-established, robust clinical practice that already has substantial referral pathways for pediatric hand and brachial plexus/peripheral nerve conditions. The programs (Pediatric Hand and Brachial Plexus & Peripheral Nerve) include experienced APPs, OTs, and cast techs to ensure a smooth transition and busy clinical practice for the incoming surgeon. The Pediatric Hand Surgeon would be joining colleagues who have well-established practices in Craniofacial Surgery and Breast/Chest Wall Deformity.

The Kenneth C. Griffin Surgical Tower

The tower, which opened in 2024, is a five-story, 131,000 square-foot facility equipped with 12 advanced and fully integrated operating suites used to perform acute to the most complex pediatric surgeries. Pediatric surgical offerings include trauma care, surgical cancer interventions, pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeries, including cleft lip-and-palate, orthopedic and spine, brain and heart surgeries.

Academic Affiliation

The Division partners with, and is involved in, the academic and educational advancement and training of, University of Miami plastic surgery residents and hand surgery fellows, Cleveland Clinic Florida plastic surgery residents, Broward Health plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery residents, Baptist Health orthopedic hand surgery fellows, and Florida International University (FIU) medical students. Employed staff benefit from affiliations with our educational partner, Florida International University (FIU). Job Summary

The position is primarily a clinical position related to the diagnosis, treatment and clinical management of pediatric patients in a multidisciplinary environment that includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, clinical scientists and social workers. The position offers exposure to a mix of general and high acuity pediatric patients. The position also includes teaching and supervision of medical residents and provides opportunities to participate in research and publishing.

Job Specific Duties

  • Applies knowledge of growth and development in customer interactions and treatment.
  • Continues to actively self-educate (i.e., reading journals, CME credits, NCH conferences, etc.).
  • Coordinates and/or develops and delivers monthly inservices to meet staff and resident development needs.
  • Coordinates follow-up of tests, lab studies, and patient follow-up phone calls.
  • Directly provides clinical services to patients including, but not limited to: performing and recording history and physical examinations, recording and interpreting pertinent patient data, developing and documenting a treatment plan, writing routine orders for appropriate laboratory studies, x-rays and consultations, performing patient/parent teaching, assisting with patient follow-up, performing appropriate screenings, administering medications as required, ordering and/or performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as indicated by patient findings.
  • Makes suggestions to Department Director and/or attending staff that may be beneficial to the improvement of the department.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement, Research and Publishing.
  • Participates in teaching of and is role model to medical students and residents.
  • Participates in the call schedule as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited medical school
  • Current state medical license and in good standing with medical board
  • Completion of Orthopedic OR Plastic Surgery Training to include Pediatric Hand Surgery Fellowship Program
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible to include CAQ Certification/Eligibility
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
